Accounting Programme

The OCR Level 2 Certificate in Accounting has been designed as an introduction to accounting practice. It aims to provide students with a fundamental understanding of the principles of double entry in both manual and computerized accounting contexts. KKCL provides free Sage Line 50 accounting software training as a combination of the course in order to help the student adapt working environment faster.

The qualification is aimed at students who have a basic knowledge of bookkeeping and who wish to extend their knowledge. It will be suitable for those who are already employed in bookkeeping / data processing roles and who wish to develop further knowledge of the principles and practices employed in accounting work. It will also be suitable for those who are studying in preparation for employment in job roles where they will be expected to work autonomously in carrying out accounting tasks and for those who wish to undertake a higher level qualification.

Structure and Syllabus

In order to achieve the OCR level 1 National Certificate in Accounting, students are required to achieve 1 mandatory unit plus 2 non-mandatory units as listed below:

Mandatory Unit:

  • Maintain day books, prepare ledger balances and extract a trial balance

Non-mandatory Units:
Process ledger transactions and prepare control accounts

  • Make journal entries and adjustments and produce a revised trial balance

Additional Unit:

  • Sage Line 50

N.B. The course structure is subject to changes made at the discretion of the college.

Teaching Methods

Lectures, tutorials, seminars, workshops and on the job training.
Assessment
All of the units will be externally assessed by OCR Examiner-moderators

Entry Requirements:
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, but the minimum entry age is 18 years old.
